Investment from the Community Makes Capital High School a Reality

Investment from the Community Makes Capital High School a Reality

At the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, Capital High proudly opened its brand new school site. The new building, made possible by the community's generous support of MMSD’s 2020 facilities referendum, brings together the school’s eastside and westside locations. The new school provides Capital High students and staff with a beautiful space they can all call home.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who made this new building possible,” said Marianne Matt, school counselor at Capital High. “Our students deserve the best, and we are proud to provide a space that sets them up for success to be college, career, and community ready.”

Designed specifically for students at Capital, the school is a reflection of their needs and aspirations. With the input of students and staff, the building features modern amenities, including a culinary arts kitchen, a gym, and an early childhood classroom. All classrooms have been refreshed and renovated, with new flooring, ceilings, and painting. There are also new windows, doors, and hardware, as well as a new secure entry. Additionally, the new building has improved accessibility, with an elevator and all-gender restrooms on each floor. With improved technology, heating and cooling systems, and fire protection, Capital High students can now thrive under one roof.

The new school is not just a beautiful space; it is also a space for innovation and growth.

“As a native of Nigeria, I understand the profound importance of education,” said Victor Chukwudebe, Capital High's Principal. “I also recognize that when students have a new and secure environment, they have an even greater chance to excel and thrive.”

Capital High is a public alternative school with about 200 students in grades 9-12. It is the only school in the district that has built-in child care, ensuring no disruption in the educational process. And as a treasured community space, Capital High's new building will continue to serve as a hub for families and students seeking welcoming and innovative programming opportunities in the evening and weekends.
