Welcome from Principal Mays

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!

I am Sheba Mays, Principal of Akira Toki Middle School.

I attended Tennessee State University and Concordia University-Wisconsin, and I have 28 years of experience as an educator and administrator in the state of Wisconsin.

I am incredibly proud to share that Toki Middle School has been recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for successfully exiting Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) status for both our students with IEPs and our Black students. This signifi cant achievement is a direct result of our community's hard work, targeted interventions, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child.

In addition to this major milestone, ALL of our students have demonstrated impressive academic growth in all core subjects, and we are well on our way to achieving that same remarkable growth in all subjects again this school year.

This year, our primary focus at Toki Middle School is to strengthen our culture as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) through the implementation of the PLC+ framework. This means our teachers are working more collaboratively than ever before to deeply examine instructional practices to ensure every student receives exactly what they need to thrive. By focusing on the core principles of PLC+, we are aligning our teaching strategies, setting high expectations, and creating targeted pathways to accelerate academic and personal growth for ALL.

Participating in clubs and sports enhances well-being while also extending social circles through shared interests and teamwork. Toki’s MSCR after-school program remains strong and is celebrated for its profound impact on students, as ninety-seven ( 97%) of our student population attend after school clubs and sports!!
